I have been a community voice teacher for over 20 years. I started my apprenticeship with Kate Howard in 1993 in Hebden Bridge and subsequently led two community choirs, Calder Valley Voices and Bradford Voices for several years. After leaving Bradford Voices in 2001, I formed an acappella ensemble, Phoenix, which I led and performed with for two years.
In early 2003 I moved from Yorkshire to Penarth and later that year I became Musical Director of Sound Women. I have been privileged to work with them ever since, helping many to build confidence in their own singing. I provide material that engages both formally and community taught singers, and draw on music from many genres including African, Eastern European, Jazz, Spirituals, American Shape Note and Madrigals, as well as traditional songs from around the UK.
I hold a PGCE in Continuing Education and have been on several singing study tours to develop my professional practice, most recently to South Africa, Corsica and Ireland.
